Smog Comparison of Old London and Today’s Beijing

This paper focuses on the application of the British government’s actions after the Great Smog with regard to Beijing’s current situation. Beijing’s highest daily mean average PM2.5 concentration was 545 µg/m3 in January 2013. In contrast London’s in 1952 was 2429 µg/m3 which was calculated with a conversion of the SO2 into PM2.5 concentration. Comparing the two peaks, London’s exceeds Beijing’s by about 4.2 times. Nonetheless, Beijing has a huge smog problem, which will become worse if no effective action is taken.
